Brands.

Nike:-
The Nike brand crosses two of Dyer's groups. Self importance and pride and elite people. As Nike is a sports brand, they include some of the best sports stars in world, such as Ronaldo, Serena Williams and LeBron James and by having people like those wear products like that automatically give us as consumers self pride when we buy those products. Its brand values would be hard work, dedication and determination.

The Nike brand is about working hard and determination.

Elite

Rolex:-
Rolex is in a few of Dyer's groups. Rich lifestyles, Dreams, Successful careers and Elite people. Rolex specialize in high class watches for the upper classes which show that Rolex is about living well and looking good. Rich famous stars where Rolex making it an expensive brand. Its brand values are rich lifestyles because consumers and employees portray that lifestyle. The brand is quite renowned for its passion and love for making watches in the best way possible.

Rolex is about looking good and dressing well

Sophisticated

Ciroc
Ciroc is again a big brand which makes is well known and appealing to different audiences meaning it is in more than one of Dyers' groups for example, it is in rich lifestyles and successful careers and elite people. As Ciroc is large brand it has people who promote the alcohol like Diddy and Rick Ross. Although its is in the category of “rich lifestyle,” Diddy does say “I cannot imagine a Spirit more suitable for commemorating life with family and friends than CÎROC.” This shows that the brand values are wealth and togetherness.

Ciroc is about having a good time whilst looking rich

Celebrity

Volkswagen:-
This is a brand for the working and middle class. The people in the adverts emphasize that. They are usually men with a family which brings me onto Dyer's theory. I think it belongs to the happy families and pride categories. I think pride is a theory this brand takes because the people in the advert are happy with their purchase. I also think that the brand values are contentment and happiness..

Volkswagen is middle class contentment

Happy

Persil:-
Persil is a washing brand that targets mothers and people that do the washing up. The brand values are nature childhood and happy families, I think this because in all the adverts, the kids are playing outside interacting with nature and once the clothes come out of the washing machine its all smiles.
The brand values could be pride in the way you look and no regrets because you can just wash off the stains.

Persil is family friendly and is for mothers with children

Mr Bush's feedback

Mr Bush's feedback.
WWW-
-good true or false starter
-good opening PowerPoint
-good research
-very good slide with different logos
-brilliant debate for plenary

EBI-
-less text on each slide
-all stand whilst presenting
-face the audience
-don't just read form the board.

LR-
I think our group did well in regards to our PowerPoint presentation. The substance of our PowerPoint was good, but we lacked a bit of organisation. I spoke quite well and got the class involved and didn't just look at the board.

750 word essay

The video that I chose to talk about is called "Forever" by Drake Kayne West Lil Wayne and Eminem. I chose to talk about it because it has a lot of cuts in it due to two stories in one music video. Its a video on the rise to fame which is good to talk about as it shows from childhood to adult life.

To start off with in the first 15 seconds there is about 5 straight cuts show LeBron James playing poker and his facial expression. The cuts are good because the viewer sees what he is doing straight away, playing poker, which tells them this music video has something to do with him. After that, there is a fade out this shows the screen fading to black which tells us that there is a change in time, place and character. After the fade out, we see about 10 cuts in 13 seconds, a mixture of straight cut and a dissolve. There are a few straight cuts which just get us familiar with he is (in a club) hence the lights and tall frame, but there are more dissolves when the other characters are being introduced such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem. I think the dissolve is used to tell us that they are all n the same place, doing the same thing, also, when the characters are being introduced, they are being introduced in a medium shot. Then when Drake starts to rap, there are two pictures of him, a close up and a medium shot to emphasise what his face looks like when he is rapping, but also his hand signals on the medium shot. It takes exactly one minute to see our first shot in the other story line of Lebron James and it is a jump cut because we do not expect it. After a second on the James story line, we cut back on to Drake rapping, but only for 2 seconds as we cut back on to James'. Now in just around 15 seconds there are 6 cuts changing from James to Drake and back again. The medium shot of LeBron James is again introducing him as a young boy playing basketball. After that there is about 15 seconds of Drake by himself until the chorus which is 20 seconds long and you see a close up of LeBron James and a close up of his coach which shows that his coach was a beneficial person in his life and he respects him.

In the first 10 seconds of Kayne's verse, the are three straight cuts of him, which implies that this minute is all his, but is soon contradicted as you see a jump cut to LeBron James Dunking which is a long shot but then you see a medium shot of him, a few team mates and his coach which again shows that without them he wouldn't be the player he is today. For 6 seconds there are a lot of cuts from LeBron to Kayne. Then for about 30 seconds it Just all Kayne. Even though its all him there are still a lot of cuts, from a medium shot to a long shot and visa versa. Then in the chorus, it starts with a close up of all the players in Lebron's team's shoes which show the hard work and team work they have, it then goes to Drake singing and then back and fourth between LeBron James and Drake, both of the cuts are predominately jump cuts with close ups and medium shots of both LeBron and Drake.

In Lil Wayne's verse there is about 12 seconds of straight cuts of Lil Wayne all of them are close ups this makes us get to know him better because before we only saw him in a medium shot. Then for 14 seconds there is jump cuts from Lil Wanyne to LeBron with Lil Wayne still being shot closely. Then just like the start, for 25 seconds you see a close up of Lil Wayne with straight cuts, the only time you do not see Lil Wayne in those 25 seconds is when you see the close up of the girls he is with, this show us that he is the man and all the girls like him. Then as usual in the chorus, we see both LeBron and Drake in simultaneous jump cuts.

Then in Eminem's verse we see a few close ups of him and his team before he starts to rap to show us what he is dealing with. Then when he starts to rap there are a lot of straight cuts of him close up and there is no sign of Lebron's story for 30 seconds then you get a glimpse of him for about a second and then it is back to Eminem for the rest of his verse.

Multi strand narrative
It is a multi-strand narrative as there are 2 seasons and four episodes each.
Linear structure:-
It goes in a systematic order, but different story lines are going on at the same time causing the viewer

Tzvetan Todorov:-
Equilibrium: Dushane’s weed business is growing and he’s making money
Disequilibrium: The police find out that Dushane has killed Kamrli (first season) and is going to get locked up if he is found guilty. Also, the Albanians have taken all of his weed so business is not blossoming.
New Equilibrium: Dushane is released and he gets his weed back from the Albanians

Media Presentation

Mr Halsey's feedback
What went well
Music and parallel images fit perfectly
Contrapuntal worked well with lyrics but not sound
Clear thought and justification for choice

Even better if
Switch to contrapuntal needs to be more shocking
Last parallel slide was ambiguous
Think about the music not the lyrics

My feedback
I think that the music fitted with the pictures but was interpreted wrong as I said the song was from Jay Z and Kanye West. The song Otis was a song by Otis Redding and only covered by Jay Z and Kanye, therefore, I think the pictures were right but perceived wrong.

Jay Z and Kayne West Otis

Representations

The stereotype of Black youth
Black youth are very rarely portrayed as this:-

Fantasy Film

Vladimir Propp - The seven spheres of action

in the climax of the film, we find out that Shanice sets up Jonas which leaves him in critical condition.
Action codes:-
when blood seeps through Jonas' t shirt we know something is wrong, also, when Jonas' hood goes up and the gun cocks.
Multi strand narrative:-
it is not a multi strand narrative as it is just one episode
Linear structure:-
it goes in a systematic chronological order beginning middle and end

Tzvetan Todorov:-
Equilibrium: Jonas just finds Shanice whilst picking his brother up from school and gets her number. They start going out.
Disequilibrium: Shanice's obsessed ex finds out she is going out with Jonas and gets jealous and trys to wipe him out.
New Equilibrium: Isaac gets killed by Jonas and the whole of instagram knows how much of a filthy girl Shanice is
